A quick shout-out to our two interns, Ben and David, who are working in our technology division this summer. They hail from Anthony Alexander's (CTO and Co-founder) alma mater, Miami of Ohio University, where they are majoring in computer science.

Their work with Anthony's team has created some really awesome enhancements to the user experience. We hope to have these launched by late summer or early fall. I had the opportunity to spend the afternoon with them a couple of weeks ago and they are full of slick ideas. Keep up the great work and keep that roller-coaster tolerance high!

I tend to avoid mentioning Traveler's Joy press on our blog but I had to include this one because I think the article does a great job of explaining the various types of honeymoon registries. Jane Hodges, the writer for the Wall Street Journal, covers most of the competition and breaks down how each company is different.

We had a meeting the day this article was released and overall, we are very happy with it. The team at Traveler's Joy is an amazing group of dedicated people determined to change the traditional wedding registry industry into a lifestyle and experience registry. We are all excited knowing that we are helping couples spend the first few weeks of their lives together experiencing new places and people.

American Public Media's Marketplace (on National Public Radio) recently reported on how high end retailers are battling lifestyle wedding registries. Only five years ago, the registry marketplace only had a half dozen brick and mortar retailers. Thing have certainly changed since then!

Wedding registries are becoming one other way for couples to express who they are and their lifestyle. Traveler's Joy believes a honeymoon registry speaks a millions words about how a couple is looking forward to exploring new places and experiences together.

This morning I came across the article below on how the modern wedding couple continues to change demographically and how that has affected registry choices. We could not agree more here at Traveler's Joy (and are happy because of it!) as our Members continue to honeymoon in exotic locations and for longer time periods with the help of their honeymoon registry. It makes us so happy to hear about the amazing places we help our couples travel to and celebrate their first few weeks of marriage together!

Honeymoon Destination Information

We realize that time is at a minimum during the wedding preparation months so most couples don't necessarily have a chance to open their guidebook until they are on the airplane.

We recently contacted a number of Traveler's Joy Members from 2007 to find out how they learned about the hotels, activities, restaurants, and off the beaten path travel experiences during their honeymoon.

As Members customize their registry, we thought it would be helpful to provide links to some of the top online travel guides. In order to make it as convenient as possible, you will notice these on the 'Activities and Trip Details' section of Registry Page section within the 'Your Account' tab once you log in.

Is Green Travel Possible?

Over the holiday weekend I was perusing through Conde Naste Traveler magazine and found some great tips on how to make traveling a bit more green. Clearly, this is not an easy task. With all of the confusing certifications and greenwash marketing in the travel business, I rarely know if I'm increasing or decreasing my environmental footprint. Regardless, some of the suggestions could prove hard to live by, i.e., I'm not sure I'll abide by flying only during the day, but there are several others you may find easily implementable.

We could not believe the high response we received with over 500 honeymoon stories submitted from our Members. I've had the opportunity to read almost 50 of them so far and have been convinced to visit a number of destinations that Shannon and I knew very little about.

The level of writing was exceptional. Each story captures the special moments of the honeymoon and the destination.

Airplane Honeymoon Suites!

I never thought about this but what better way to kick off a long journey to your honeymoon destination than with a honeymoon suite on a commercial airplane? Wow - and I thought first class was the way to go.

I can only imagine the price tag for such an exclusive section but the new Airbus A380 now accommodates this possible seat/suite configuration. While I've heard it can take up to three hours to board this new A380, time probably passes by quickly when you are sipping champagne in bed :)

Only 3 more days until the Traveler's Joy "Share Your Honeymoon Story, Win an iPod" contest ends. We've received some really great honeymoon stories but would love to hear your honeymoon story and share it with current and future Traveler's Joy Members.

In fact, we are so excited that we are giving away (5) iPod Nanos to the most detailed and well-written honeymoon descriptions. If selected, your story will be featured on the Traveler's Joy website using your first names only.

We have an easy submission process. Simply write a minimum of 500 words in either Microsoft Word or a simple text editor like Notepad and either attach or include the content in an email addressed to honeymooncontest@travelersjoy.com. Be sure to include your full name and address in the email so we can contact you if your entry is chosen as a winner (your contact information will not be used for any other purpose).

We love to read about any and all honeymoons so to be fair, all entries will be judged by an unbiased third party editor. When writing your submissions, please keep in mind that entries will be judged on their thoroughness. Your story will be a tool for a future Members to plan their dream honeymoon.

The minimum 500 word story should include at least the following information, but the more detailed your entry, the better chance you have to win:

1) Honeymoon destination and dates.

2) How and why you chose a particular place or region.

3) Where you stayed, why you selected the establishment, and how you
enjoyed your time there.

4) Your favorite activities and experiences during the honeymoon and why.

5) The approximate cost of the honeymoon (including airfare).

6) If you would recommend the destination to other honeymooners and why .

We look forward to reading your honeymoon story. The deadline for this contest is 11:59PM ET October 31, 2007.
